The ASCE Anchorage Branch collaborated with the Anchorage School District’s Career and Technical Education Program and the Beartooth Theaterpub to present ASCE’s latest documentary, Cities of the Future. High school seniors and freshmen from the ASD Academies program at Dimond, West, and Eagle River were bussed  to the event. There, they enjoyed Beartooth pizza while learning about the civil engineering profession from a panel of local engineers who work in the geotechnical, structural, transportation, and environmental disciplines in both the public and private sectors.

During the discussion, one engineer inspired the students by stating, “To build the cities of the future, we need future engineers to design them.” Following the panel, students watched the thought-provoking documentary, which explored visionary ideas about what future cities might look like. The UAA Civil Engineering Advisory Board is reaching out with an exciting opportunity to help shape Alaska’s future by investing in the next generation of Civil Engineers. Their goal is to increase enrollment and retention in UAA’s Civil Engineering (CE) program, to meet Alaska’s growing workforce needs. Each election cycle, APDC creates a candidate questionnaire on topics relevant to our industries to inform the professionals we represent on candidates ahead of the November election.  We polled our member organizations + sustaining companies for topics of interest, and produced a 6-question form which was distributed to the candidates for the Alaska State Senate + House of Representatives.

ASCE and MacGillivray Freeman Films – the team that brought Dream Big: Engineering our World to giant screens around the Worls have united to produce a new film inspired by ASCE’s Future World Vision Initiative: Cities of the Future.

ASCE Alaska Chapter is teaming with the Anchorage School District to bus seniors from West High, Dimond High, and Eagle River High to Beartooth Theaterpub for a screening of this documentary on Tuesday October 29th. ASCE will provide free food for the students + attendees, and will feature a panel discussion featuring local professionals across varied disciplines of Civil Engineering prior to the movie screening.
