Northern Design Course Announced at UAA for Spring 2024

Back by Popular Demand: Northern Design Class will be offered again in Spring 2024 with the same instructors as Fall 2023.  This course primarily deals with vertical construction in an arctic and subarctic climate, from planning to design to relevant codes to construction logistics, and everything in between.  The course will occur weekly on Wednesdays from 7-9:45 pm AK time, starting on January 17th, and can be attended in-person or remotely.

8 registrants are required in order for this class to occur, so please pass the word along and register early if you plan to attend!

AELS Releases Updates to Continuing Education Requirements

As of October 15, 2023, the AELS Board has updated their Continuing Education Requirements for design Professionals within the state. A few of the key updates include the discontinuation of “carry forward” hours after this year’s renewal cycle, introducing several new ways to earn professional development hours, partial exemptions for professionals licensed longer than 30 years, and new forms for reporting professional development hours.

Northern Design (ES A411) Offered for Fall 2023 Semester at UAA

Need to pass a course in arctic engineering to satisfy your Alaska State licensing requirements? Want to take a course that is geared to vertical construction and is taught by professionals with at least 20 years of experience? ES A411 Northern Design is being offered this fall by the Architecture and Engineering Technology Department of the Community and Technical College of the University of Alaska, Anchorage on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 to 9:45, starting August 30th. The class will be meeting in the UAA Engineering and Industry Building (the new Engineering Building) but can also be viewed remotely, so architects, engineers, or landscape architects residing outside of Anchorage (or even Alaska) can take this course.
