We’ve completed a great start to 2019. The executive board is taking July and August off. When we reconvene in September, we’ll finalize our by-law updates, the new APDC logo and continue our SWOT analysis discussions. In the fall, we will begin to focus on what issues APDC will communicate to our legislators during the 2020 legislative fly-in. We will also discuss representation at the Alaska Municipal League’s Annual Conference taking place November 18-22 in Anchorage. Our goal there is to promote and act as a resource regarding the selection of professional services based on qualifications.
AELS’s next scheduled meeting takes place August 1-2 with the location to be determined. The executive board will liaison with AELS despite our summer break. They will also continue to follow the state legislature as their second special session begins on July 8th. The Permanent Fund and achieving consensus on the capital budget continue to be the legislature’s focus. If a capital budget is not finalized in July, Alaska’s private sector industries could be devastated by forfeiting nearly $1 billion in federal highway and aviation projects because required state matching dollars were not provided. A critical issue for all of our member organizations!
I will continue to keep the board and member organizations appraised.
Enjoy your summer!
